You can access this pot during your working years for emergencies or other needs.<\/li><li><strong>Retirement Pot<\/strong>: The remaining two-thirds of your contributions will go into this pot, which is meant to be preserved for your retirement.<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-971d9ac elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"971d9ac\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-b21a57e\" data-id=\"b21a57e\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-05fcc69 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"05fcc69\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h3><strong>How It Affects Your Existing Savings<\/strong><\/h3><p>As of August 31, 2024, your current retirement savings will be moved into a \u201cvested pot\u201d under the old rules. Plus, you\u2019ll have the option to make a one-time withdrawal of up to 10% of your balance as of that date, with a maximum limit of R30,000.<\/p><h3><strong>Making Withdrawals<\/strong><\/h3><p>Once the new system is in place, you can make one withdrawal per tax year from your savings pot, as long as it\u2019s at least R2,000. Keep in mind that withdrawals from the savings pot will be taxed according to your personal tax rate, while the old tax rules will apply to withdrawals from the vested pot.<\/p><h3><strong>When You Retire<\/strong><\/h3><p>At retirement, you\u2019ll need to use the full amount in your retirement pot to purchase an annuity. However, you can choose to withdraw the savings pot as a lump sum or use it to buy an annuity too.<\/p><h3><strong>Why This Is a Good Thing<\/strong><\/h3><p>The Two-Pot System is designed to help you keep most of your retirement savings intact while still giving you access to funds when you need them. It\u2019s a great way to strike a balance between saving for the future and meeting your current needs.
